Meet Joshua Koziol

Son to Heather & Kris Koziol
Little brother to Brooke

Joshua was born with a heart defect called Tetrology of Fallot. TOF means there are 4 problems of the heart. His heart defect was discovered when I was pregnant with Joshua. We were able to prepare as much as we could for his birth and understood he would need open heart surgery soon after his birth as well as spend a great deal of first month of life in the NICU at UMC.

Joshua was supposed to be able wait to have his first open heart surgery until he was around one years old, but his plans quickly changed. At a routine cardiology visit, doctors were concerned with his echo and scheduled a heart catherization for the next day. Doctors believed they might could fix his hole in heart by heart catherization, but once they saw the hole in the bottom part of his heart (VSD) was larger than thought and his pulmonary valve was 90% closed, they recommended immediate open heart surgery for our 3 month old baby. The American Heart Association is the largest voluntary health organization working to prevent, treat and defeat heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases. These diseases, the Nation's No.1 and No.4 killers, claim more than 813,804 American lives a year. Thanks to all our walkers, donors and volunteers who have accepted the challenge to help fight heart disease and stroke. We cannot achieve our mission without each one of you!
